I believe I could figure out how to set up 2016 to serve files and have the workstations communicate, but I'm afraid it'd take me a while to learn it. I'm waiting for the itemized break down on the last quote. The service is about $700 for "ProDeploy" and about $1600 for "Pro Deploy Plus." At least on one of the configurations of the server we're considering. Just make sure you fully plan out the deployment. This will be a hard one to screw up if you want to dive in and do some duties a step or two up from what you currently do.
If they charge a premium, make a gameplan that takes you from receiving the box to it offering services and implement. If it isn't bad price wise go for it for the confidence / not having to worry about it factor. What's the price for the service? Standard dell servers are as easy as they come to rack and setting up a 2016 box to serve up files and SQL is pretty entry level. So any experiences with Dell ProDeploy (or the ProDeploy Plus which is more extensive) that you can share would be appreciated. Apparently, they'll come out and set up the whole thing for you and depending upon the level of service, provide remote support for a period of time afterward. At least until I can get a good person to maintain the server (either in person or remotely). So the idea of having someone qualified (if Dell ProDeploy) is the right service, is appealing. Maybe we'd store some other files on it that are critical. And if we order a new server, (which we must do soon) I'm far from confident in my abilities to set up Server 2016 (which apparently comes pre-installed) and configure the network (which we'll use solely as a file server for the ERP database and the Quickbooks database). I'm able to do very, very basic things to maintain it. I'm able to do things with the workstations we have (we have 16 workstations - most of them new thanks to the kind help of participants on this forum who helped with suggestions).īut our current server (from 2010) runs SBS 2008. I have a software consultant who helps with the software when we need it, but I don't currently have someone who will do hardware.
We need to get a new server for the latest version of our ERP/Manufacturing software. Have you had occasion to work with the Dell ProDeploy services? I've noticed this is an option when working up Dell server quotations. I notice there's a lot of IT people here that work with small businesses.
