After a gunfight in the hangar bay, the crew escapes on the corvette class light frigate, the Tachi. While the Donnie is being attacked and boarded, Holden and his crew are escorted to the hangar bay by Lieutenant Kelly and three marines. Upon Holden's return to the crew their room is punctured and Shed Garvey is killed. The Donnie is then attacked by the six ships that followed the Knight. When the Knight docks in the Donnager the crew is escorted to their quarters while Holden is debriefed. The Knight is then followed by six ships. The Knight is contacted by Wallace Fritz of the Pur'n'Kleen Water Company who orders them to be picked up by the Donnager and assist the MCRN and assist them in their investigation if the destruction of the Cant. Alex then tells Holden about similar stealth ships that were part of the Martian Navy when he was. Alex flies the Knight back to the Cant but is then ordered to return to the asteroid while Holden continues broadcasting the SOS when the Cant is destroyed. Shortly after Holden and Amos find the transmitter in the Scopuli, a stealth ship appears and fires six torpedoes at the Cant. When the Cant received a distress signal from the Scopuli on the asteroid CA-2216862, Alex was part of the crew of the Knight consisting of James Holden, Naomi Nagata, Amos Burton, and Shed Garvey sent to investigate.

I don't think fans would care if another stepped into Anvar's shoes to finish the series as Alex. Was re-casting NOT an option? Could they not find a lookalike or at least try to give Alex more organic a "heroic death"? It feels like they simply gave up on the character due to the actions of the actor and gave audiences shock for shock's sake.

For the most part, the TV series remained mostly faithful to them. I get why the producers and showrunners needed to do what they did with Anvar, but did his character need to "suddenly" die like that and wrote off almost like trash? Nevermind that Alex was very much alive and able to celebrate the victory with his comrades in the party in the books. For those who aren't aware, Anvar is facing accusations of abuse after the #MeToo social movement empowered individuals to come forward with their claims. It just looked like something that was obviously reshot and cobbled together…like the showrunners lazily tried to cover for someone who just died or in this case, got fired. When the Rocinante crew reunites at Luna, we get an explanation from Jim Holden ( Steven Strait) that Alex died from a stroke. As this happens, we get a shot of a very still Alex with presumably CG blood emanating from his nose. Just as any space sci-fi survival setting when air is low, Naomi is in the middle of passing out when she's saved by Bobbie in her spacesuit.
As she floats and the Razorback gets within reach, Alex is tipped off by Naomi's Belter sign language of what's happened. Unable to receive messages from within the Chetzemoka, Naomi makes a last-ditch effort to separate herself from the Chetzemoka by running out in her spacesuit, limited oxygen and all to make sure her rescuers see her alone and away from the trap.
